"The next five days seemed to be a blur. Both Jodie and Kate were living in Auckland at the time so it was easy for them to come home. This sort of news we did not want to tell them over the phone.
Kate was studying at University and this news made her study even more. Kate found out everything she could about the cancer and what Greg's success would be. Kate also seemed to know what to ask the Doctors. It was great.
Jodie has a huge group of friends and they were fantastic for her. They all rallied around and helped her deal with this.
I found it really difficult to deal with. I felt cheated. I know it was'nt about me, but we were'nt meant to get cancer. Sick people get cancer, unhealthy people get cancer. We were'nt sick and we certainly were'nt unhealthy.
This must be wrong. All of these thoughts kept going around in my head.
That "C" word must be one of the hardest diagnosis that a Doctor has to deliver to a patient and his/her family. Just the sound of it puts you into a tail spin.
I felt that now was the time that Greg phoned his parents and started doing some healing with his family.
He had not had a civil word to say to them or about them for such a long time, but I felt that he had to at least tell his mother.
As his Mother, she had a right to know."
